The Best Thai Peanut Sauce

Versatile, easy & delicious - thai peanut sauce

Your Ultimate Thai Peanut Sauce: One recipe, ready in 5 minutes, creamy, and versatile for rice bowls, salads, dips, noodles, and more. This sauce is one of my favorites and elevates even the most ordinary meals!

It's a breeze to whip up, incredibly versatile, budget-friendly, and pairs perfectly with a many of dishes. It's crafted from simple ingredients that you likely have in your pantry already. Plus, it stores well in the fridge, so you can have a stash of sauce all week long!

about the key ingredients

Peanut Butter: This ingredient takes center stage! Opt for peanut butter containing only peanuts and salt for the best texture and flavor in your sauce. While natural nut butters may require a bit of effort to stir initially, trust me—it's worth it!

Maple Syrup or Honey: Choose either option based on your preference, and feel free to reduce the amount for a lower-sugar alternative. I typically lean towards honey, but maple syrup is a fantastic vegan option.

Liquid Aminos: To maintain a balanced flavor profile, I recommend using liquid aminos. Personally, I prefer liquid aminos to avoid soy.

Chili Garlic Paste: Add a kick of heat with this ingredient! Adjust the amount according to your spice tolerance, or swap it out for sriracha, hot sauce, or red pepper flakes if desired.

Water: Use warm water to achieve your desired sauce consistency—it makes whisking easier compared to cold water.

Sesame Oil: This ingredient enhances the overall flavor profile of the sauce, imparting a delightful nuttiness.

Ginger & Garlic: I prefer fresh ginger and minced garlic, but you can also use powdered ginger if preferred.

Rice Vinegar and Lime Juice: These ingredients provide a tangy acidity that blend the flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar

  • 2 tablespoons liquid aminos

  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup

  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

  • 1-2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce

  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger

  • 4-6 cloves garlic, pressed

  • Juice of 1/2 lime

  • 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup water, to adjust consistency

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine peanut butter, rice wine vinegar, liquid aminos, maple syrup, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, minced ginger, pressed garlic cloves, and lime juice.

  2. Gradually add water, starting with 1/4 cup, and whisk until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. Add more water as needed to thin out the sauce.

  3. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. You can add more chili garlic sauce for extra heat, more maple syrup for sweetness, or more lime juice for acidity.

  4. Once satisfied with the flavor and consistency, transfer the peanut sauce to a serving bowl or airtight container if not using immediately.

  5. Use the peanut sauce as a delicious dip for spring rolls, drizzle it over salads, or as a marinade for grilled meats. Enjoy the rich and flavorful taste of this homemade peanut sauce!

Storage Tips

Thai peanut sauce is good in the refrigerator for up to 10 days. Use an airtight container to keep it fresh, and stir before serving. I love mason jars and glass sauce bottles for storage. I have linked both in this recipe index!

Freezing is not advised for peanut sauce, as it may result in an undesirable texture upon thawing. Enjoy it within the recommended 10-day timeframe.
